We’re sorry to report that White Bear sailor Tim Stoddart passed away Monday, November 6, 2017. Tim was a lifelong sailor and worked hard to spread the love of sailing to all he met. His calm and gentle nature made him a natural teacher for anyone who wanted to learn from him. Tim had a boat on Lake Superior in addition to his many boats on White Bear. 

Over his lifetime, Tim owned lots of sailboats, often simultaneously, and bought several older boats and rejuvenated them. He had some very adventurous ocean sailing experiences in addition to sailing in the upper midwest. He also ran multiple marathons (often with no special training!), was an avid bicyclist, kayaker and wilderness camper. He was known to climb the Stillwater steps on Saturdays before going to yoga class! Tim was also a gourmet cook who was always bringing one of his special meals to someone sick, injured or in need.

In addition to summer sailing, Tim was an avid iceboater and was always looking for a “deal” on another boat – he loved to buy and sell iceboats so that he could spread the fun to more people.

Tim will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Melissa and three children, Alice, Ben and Ian and grandson Christopher.
