The waterfront project is now well underway at WBYC. After a bit of work, the old Sailors Pavilion gave up and fell in on itself. The old structure proved to be quite strong. After a bit of digging behind the building, they found the old concrete slab from the 1912-1937 Club House. There have been bits and pieces of dishes and utensils in the dirt but nothing resembling buried treasure or pirate loot.

We had our Fall lift-out event on Saturday October 20th. Besides getting the lifts up on shore, we had to move them out to the backside of the parking lot in order to clear the area around the Sailors Pavilion for demolition and construction. It was quite a task, but with ample volunteers and the use of tractors and trailers, the move was well executed. Thanks to the following people who volunteered their time on Saturday:
Steve Johnson, Mike Swift, Jack Madill, Mary Madill, Sean Wagner, Fred Nolan, Lee Alnes, Tom Haberman, Matt Haberman, Craig Jennings, Tony Reding, Tom Garske, Neil Christensen, Tim Petersen, Matt Petersen, Wash Co. Deputy Dan Harjes
The annual Let”s Go Fishing Fundraiser dinner will be held this Saturday night, October 27th. This year we have a different band- The Jennifer Grimm Band with Joe Cruz- They are really very amazing! Dinner will be Lasagna, Chicken Alfredo, Salad, bread and desserts- all for only 20 bucks! Tickets will be available at the door. Thanks!!

It’s that time of year again… time to award some hard-earned trophies and celebrate another excellent summer of sailing.
Please join us Saturday, September 22, 2012 for the Annual WBYC Sailing Awards Dinner. 5:00 pm ~ Cocktails and Social Hour, cash barOn September 2, 2012 following the final A Scow race of the season, sailors gathered at the old Sailors Pavilion on the WBYC waterfront to say good bye to the facility that has been the home of sailing on White Bear Lake for the past 70 plus years. The event was sponsored by the WBYC A Scow Fleet.
Executive Officer Jack Madill welcomed everyone and introduced a slate of speakers including ILYA Past Commodore and sailing historian Dr. Tom Hodgson who spoke of the wealth of history that WBYC is famous for. Tom introduced Pillsbury Cup winner and two time ILYA Champion, Will Crary, who gave a great talk about how to become a top notch sailor and the importance of attending regattas if you want to improve your skills.
Bev Driscoll provided delicious cake for all in recognition of Fletcher’s birthday. The Driscoll family has been instrumental in their leadership and generous support of the A fleet on White Bear. With 11 registered boats, WBYC now boasts the largest A fleet in the country.
Stay tuned for more information about the plans for the waterfront at WBYC.

White Bear sailors have all returned from Lake Mendota and part two of the “Big Inland” ILYA Annual Championship Regattas for classes A, MC, and 420. In Class A, Lee Alnes and the Euphoria Racing Team had a great regatta ending up in 7th place overall against a perenially tough fleet. Will Crary won the 420 Championship with 14 points after six races(one throwout). Wheeler Morris was second with 15 points and two race wins. Eddie Cox was 6th, Kate Cox 11th, and Thor Hsu was 14th. They all represented White Bear and sailed well against a very competitive fleet. Full results can be found on the ILYA website.
