The White Bear Yacht Club will host the annual Inter-Lake Regatta at White Bear Lake, August 5-6, 2017.  Launching and registration will take place on Friday, August 4, with three races scheduled for Saturday and two races on Sunday morning.  Sailors of all ages will compete for the Irvine Challenge Trophy, the Anderson-0rdway Trophy, and the Dan McCarthy Memorial Trophy among others in classes E, C, MC and X.

The first Inter-Lake races were sailed as a result of a challenge issued by White Bear Yacht Club to The Minnetonka Yacht Club back in 1892.  On May 13, 1895, an agreement was made between the Minnetonka Yacht Club and the White Bear Yacht Club to sail a series of races each season. The Inter-Lake Regatta was traditionally an invitational regatta, open only to the top yachts from each of the member clubs.  However, we now invite all members to participate, but only the top skippers who must pre-qualify at their home lake are scored for the Team Challenges.

Over a century has passed since the first Inter-Lake challenge was issued by WBYC.  The regatta, based on team and individual accomplishment, retains a strong “family” atmosphere combined with the enjoyment of competitive sailing.  We look forward to hosting the event this year – welcome to White Bear Lake!
