2007 Class A Spirit of the Lake Regatta The 2007Class A Spirit of the Lake Regatta will be held June 29 - 30 (Friday - Saturday) at White Bear Lake, MN with registration and launching on Thursday July 28. The White Bear Yacht Club invites all Yacht Clubs to send their top female competitors to this first ever regatta which promises excellent racing & social activities. White Bear Lake is enjoying an exciting, resurgent interest in racing this grand boat, first designed here by John O. Johnson over 100 years ago. This regatta is an unprecedented opportunity to race with a talented field of women sailors driving the largest and fastest racing scows found anywhere. Participants and spectators alike can look forward to 2 days of challenging courses on the water and awesome relaxation on shore. General information is provided below. If you are racing in both the NCASA Championship and the Spirit of the Lake Challenge, you are welcome to park your boat at a designated spot near WBYC for the 4 days between the NCASA Championship and the Challenge Regatta. Call Janet Callahan or Karen Taylor to make arrangements. Safety and Technical Support: We're working on having an adequate number of support boats on the water with at least 1 experienced A scow sailor on board to offer advice during the race on sail trim and other technical adjustments. REGATTA HEADQUARTERS (back to top) Regatta headquarters will be at the White Bear Yacht Club, Sailor’s Pavilion in Dellwood. Skipper’s meeting, one-hour gun, spectator boats, taxi boats, and lunches will take place or be available at regatta headquarters. REGATTA ELIGIBILITY (back to top) The regatta is open to all Class A scows—both Open class and One-Design—having a female skipper and a majority of women as crew. Men are welcome to make up the rest of each crew. If you expect to need extra crew you may indicate this on the registration form and then check in with Regatta Registration. Click Here for brochure. LAUNCHING MOORING AND HAUL OUT (back to top) Launching will take place at Ramsey County Beach Public Beach on the NW shore of White Bear Lake. Click here for area map and follow the links for detailed maps. There will NOT be a crane available for launching or haul out. Launch times are Thursday, June 28 4pm to 7pm and Friday morning June 29 8am to 9am. WBYC sailors will provide launch and towing assistance on Thursday afternoon only. Trailers will be parked at a nearby site. Directions to trailer parking will be available at the launch site. Mooring at WBYC is approximately 10-15 feet deep with WNW exposure; thus, mooring equipment must be stout. Participants must furnish all of their own mooring gear. Water taxi service to and from boats moored at WBYC will be available. White Bear Yacht Club does not allow powerboats to moor overnight at the Club. The Regatta Committee will make arrangements to moor accompanying powerboats at private homes. The Committee will appreciate early notice of your powerboat mooring needs. Complimentary bottled will be available for all sailors before heading out to race. Complete and filling box lunches will available Friday and Saturday. Friday evening starts with a poolside cocktail reception at the White Bear Yacht Club followed by one of the Club’s famously delicious dinners–including a vegetarian option-in the historic Commodore Room. Dinner seating is limited to 80 persons, so please confirm your reservation early! Meal ticket packages MUST be preordered ordered on the registration form. They can be picked up at Regatta Headquarters when competitors sign in.Meal Ticket Package: Total price $60.00 per person.
